Trinity Club of Ottawa Fall 2009 Schedule
Another set of lively events for Trinity alumni, their partners, and “friends” of the college are in the works for this fall here in Ottawa. We had a great time in 2009—notwithstanding a fire at St. Matthews meant the St. Hilda’s lecture had to be cancelled, and an ailing memory on the part of your president meant the David Halton wine-and-cheese morphed into a dessert party— so the shape of the program is much the same. As details firm up, we will be delighted to let you know what they are, in an email or phone message.
Please fill in and return this pdf or this on-line form —sooner rather than later would be much appreciated—otherwise you will hear no more from the Trinity Club until 2010.
With my very best wishes,
Jane Waterston

SEPTEMBER 14, 5:30 p.m. • TRINITY NIGHT AT THE OPERA
Mozart’s Magic Flute (sung in German, with dialogue in English) is being presented by Opera Lyra Ottawa at the National Arts Centre (Southam Hall). There are still subscriptions available for Trinity Club of Ottawa members who sign up for the Monday, September 14 performance and, next spring, the Monday, March 29 presentation of Macbeth.
The “deal” is the same as in previous years: 10% off regular ticket prices for subscribing, plus a second 10% for being a Trinity Club member, the latter to be stated explicitly when reserving. Prompt action is desirable if you want to take advantage of these special prices. To order your subscription, please call Isabelle Dubois in the Opera Lyra Ottawa box office at 613-233-9200.
Join the party in Le Café first...on request (via the enclosed reply sheet or a note to trinityclubottawa@rogers.com), we will reserve a seat for you (and your opera partner) at one of our Trinity Club tables in the NAC’s comfortable restaurant. We will sit down promptly at 5:30 p.m, to ensure a smooth after-dinner transition to our Southam Hall seats.
To receive a reminder of this event right after Labour Day, please check the Opera Outing box on the reply sheet before sending it back to us.
OCTOBER 2, 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. • OKTOBERFEST WINE TASTING
This will be a great sociable event: a celebration of local harvests —in this case the wines of Prince Edward County and the cheeses of eastern Ontario. We will have a good selection of local products for you to sample, supplemented with other yummy hors d’oeuvres. A hall in the Sandy Hill Community Centre (close to the Queensway and the University transitway stop) is booked from 6-9 pm for this party. The cost is $30/person — but only $20 if you graduated in or after 2000. To receive an update on what to expect, please check the Oktoberfest box on the reply sheet before sending it back to us.
NOVEMBER 13, 7:30 p.m. • SALUTE TO ST. HILDA
“Trade with the gifts God gave you,” St. Hilda urged her acolytes—including (some years later) the women of Trinity College. Our St. Hilda’s speaker will not only entertain us with a good tale or two but herself demonstrate the sort of talent, expertise and results Hilda so admired. We (women and men) will gather in St. Matthew’s Church Hall, in the Glebe, at 7:30 p.m. on a Friday night close to the revered saint’s feast day. Please join us! To learn who the speaker will be and confirm the date of this event, please check the St. Hilda’s Salute box on the reply sheet before sending it back to us.
