ACADEMIC DONS
Promoting Academic Excellence and Enriching the Student Experience - $3 million
|
Trinity’s Academic Dons are one of the primary ways we support our students, and we are the only college on the U of T campus to offer this type of discipline-specific, academic donship program. We provide Dons in key disciplines, including Mathematics, Physics, English and the Life Sciences. The Dons are graduate-school or professional-faculty students with first-class standing, excellent interpersonal skills and teaching experience. They are experts in their own discipline.
The Dons live in residence and consult with all Trinity students, both resident and non-resident, during regular academic hours, as well as on evenings and weekends. They offer one-on-one or group tutoring in their areas of expertise, as well as personal and academic counselling. They assist our students to develop their proficiency in language, reasoning, writing, mathematics and analytical thought. They also give editorial advice on essays and assignments, help students to prepare for exams, and advise on how to make applications to graduate schools. They liaise with College clubs and participate actively in College life.
The Academic Dons program is Trinity’s best investment in its students. Having the support of older, experienced scholars is invaluable to our undergraduates. We must secure this important resource for our future students.
To this end, we want to raise an endowment of $3 million to support the Dons permanently. The revenue from the endowment capital will provide a protected income stream that will cover the cost of each Don each year.
