THE PROVOST

Ensuring Inspired Leadership for Trinity - $3 million

While Trinity’s vision is to foster the next generation of leaders for our nation, the College itself also needs inspired leadership.

Dr. Andy Orchard, a renowned medieval scholar. is Trinity’s current Provost and Vice-Chancellor, the College's 14th since George Whitaker first held the position in 1851. He is the leader of our College, setting the vision, direction and tone of the institution. He is also the essential CEO of our educational enterprise, providing important management and supervision of its affairs.

The Provost serves as the public “face” of Trinity, representing and advocating for the College at the highest levels, demonstrating the college’s strong commitment to higher education and academic achievement, and inspiring students to perform at their best.

Without a Provost, we would not have a college, merely a residence.

In order to continue attracting and retaining the very best intellectual leaders over time for this critical position at Trinity, we would like to create a $3-million endowment. The grant Trinity receives from the University of Toronto each year specifically excludes funds for the Provost and so does not cover any of the expenses associated with the Provost’s position. Currently this position is funded by the college’s annual operating budget, which places a significant demand on our limited endowment income. We want to endow the position of the Provost so that it is self-sustaining in perpetuity. This will free funds to pay for other crucial college expenses and thereby help to secure Trinity’s future.
