The Honour Roll
EXCELLENT STUDENTS
Attracting the Brightest and Best - $3 million
|
Trinity arguably has the most dynamic, forward-thinking and highest-achieving group of students in Canada. We are proud of the high-quality graduates who have passed through our doors for so many generations.
Our entrance requirements are among the highest in Canada. Trinity has the highest proportion (more than half) of students graduating with “high distinction” or “distinction” of any of U of T’s colleges, and more than half of our graduates go on to pursue graduate studies. We are also extremely proud of our unusually strong record of producing Rhodes scholars. Since the scholarships were established in 1903, a Trinity student has been awarded a Rhodes Scholarship on average every three years.
In order to continue attracting the very best students both in Canada and around the world, the College needs to enhance its scholarship program – especially since we have a much larger proportion of top students than other colleges and universities.
Increasingly, even though Trinity may have been their first choice, more of the College’s best applicants are accepting offers elsewhere, because the scholarships they are offered are more generous than we can afford.
If Trinity is to maintain its competitive stance and continue attracting the types of students who will keep our academic standards at the excellent levels we are known for, we must create not only more scholarships, but also more creative kinds of scholarships.
In order to do this, we plan to create a permanent endowment of $3 million, which will be dedicated to providing entrance scholarships that are renewable each year, provided a certain academic standing is maintained. We believe these awards will make a real difference in our recruiting efforts, as these types of scholarships are extremely attractive to students and their families. They also represent a high degree of recognition of academic achievement, which these exceptional students – with entrance averages in the high 90s – deserve.
