Trinity College In-Course Scholarships

All Trinity students are automatically considered for Trinity College in-course scholarships at the end of their first, second and third years.  In order to qualify for consideration, a student must complete a minimum of 4.0 credits during the Fall-Winter academic year in question.  Scholarship recipients are selected based on their Annual Grade Point Average (AGPA).  The cut-off AGPA for scholarships changes each year depending on the number of students eligible for consideration.  Trinity College in-course scholarships are awarded to students in October of the following academic year.

Below is a list of awards that are available to students by application only.  Please read the descriptions and application requirements carefully.  Completed applications are to be submitted to the Trinity College Registrar's Office by the deadline listed in the award description.

The Solar Panel First-Year Award

Awarded to a current first-year student entering second year in September 2012, who demonstrates an active interest and commitment to issues pertaining to the environment and sustainability through co-curricular involvement on campus.  Applicants must submit a statement outlining their eligibility for the award along with a CV and a letter of reference pertaining to their co-curricular involvement.  This award is funded, as voted on by the TCM in 2007, from net revenues generated by the Larkin solar panels.   

Value: up to $2000 (one award)

Deadline: May 25, 2012

Awarded: June 2012, payment made in two installments in September 2012

The John Harvey Whiteside Scholarship

This scholarship has been established to provide continuing funding for a Trinity College student who is registered in an Honours Bachelor of Arts or Commerce programme, and who is not also receiving another significant continuing scholarship.  Candidates are to have strong academic records and good records of community participation.  The award is for a student entering second year and is renewable for the third year and fourth year of study as long as the recipient maintains a minimum 3.50 AGPA each year on a minimum of 4.0 credits, and remains positively involved in the College and/or University and/or community.  For the full critera and applicaton procedure please click here (.pdf).

Value: $15,000 per year (one award) – twice renewable

The William and Nona Heaslip Scholarships

These awards were established to provide continuing funding for Trinity College students who have financial need, strong but not necessarily outstanding academic performance (minimum 3.0 CGPA), and good community participation. Application is open to students admitted in September 2011 who will be entering second year in September 2012. The award is renewable for the third and fourth years of study as long as recipients continue to demonstrate financial need, maintain the required CGPA and remain actively involved in the College and/or community. Please submit a letter of application outlining your eligibility for this award, focusing on what you expect from your university career and how you hope it will unfold, along with two letters of reference and a completed 2012-2013 Budget Form for Application Awards (.pdf).  The selection procedure may include an interview with the committee. 

Value: $15,000 per year (two awards) – twice renewable

The Bronskill Prize

This award is offered to help finance residence for one year.  It is open to any full-time Trinity student entering second, third or fourth year in 2012-2013.  Criteria include a strong record of active contribution to extracurricular College activities and a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher.  Candidates must also be Ontario residents who qualify for OSAP.  In order to receive this Prize, the recipient must be in residence for 2012-2013.  Please submit a full resume and a letter describing how this award will further your academic plan and student life along with a completed  2012-2013 Budget Form for Application Awards (pdf). 

Value: up to $5,000 (one award)

The Buscombe Awards

These awards are available to Trinity College students entering their final year of registration in 2012-2013.  Please submit a letter of application that addresses how you fit most or all of the criteria listed below along with a completed 2012-2013 Budget Form for Application Awards (.pdf).  Please note that you do not have to meet all of the criteria below in order to qualify for this award.

-Registered at Trinity College throughout undergraduate career, and entering the final year of study.
-Maintained the required academic standards in each year of study.
-No significant financial means other than through employment.
-Established to the satisfaction of the Student Awards Committee constructive career plans following the acquisition of a degree.
-Canadian Citizen by birth.
-Established to the satisfaction of the Student Awards Committee active membership in a church or duly recognized place of worship.
-Established to the satisfaction of the Student Awards Committee active involvment in community service.
-Preference shall be given to students who participate actively in the life of the College.
-The award shall be used only for tuition, residence and ancillary fees, and for normal personal and incidental expenses..

The George Gray Falle Scholarships

This scholarship is available to Trinity College students entering second, third or fourth year in 2012-2013 who are enrolled in English programs, with consideration given to majors and specialists.  Applications are assessed on the basis of marks, courses taken, letters of recommendation and extra-curricular activities related to the study of English.  Please submit a letter outlining the courses that you are completing this session, your course choices for next year, your long-term academic plans, and any related extra-curricular activities.  Also include two letters of reference - academic or related to English extra-curricular activities, at least one of which should be written by a member of the English Department of the University of Toronto. 

Value: up to $2000 each (one or more awards)

The Neil Reid McLeod Scholarship

One award either to a student registered in Trinity College for one year’s study at one of University of Edinburgh, Glasgow University, University of St. Andrews, or to a student from one of these three universities to study at the University of Toronto.  Open either for an undergraduate year of study or for a graduate year of study.  Awarded for 2012-2013.  Please submit a letter outlining your proposed course of study with a letter of reference.

Value: up to $4,000 (one award)

Awarded: June 2012, payment made in Fall 2012 upon receipt of proof of registration

The Martin Simpson Award

This award is available to current or graduating students from any college whose interests lead them, in 2012-2013, to a course of studies that will include an interest in English and French Canadian understanding.  This award is tenable in any university where French will be used to a significant extent in the program of studies, preferably in Quebec.  Submit a letter of application outlining your eligibility for this award.

Value: up to $3,500 (one award)

The William Rogers Memorial Scholarship

This award is available to an undergraduate Trinity College student studying in France for the 2012-2013 session.  If no suitable candidate is found, then students studying in France for the 2012 summer session or students studying in other European countries for 2012-2013 will be considered.  Please submit a letter of application outlining your proposed course of study along with an academic letter of reference.

Value: up to $1,500 (one award)

The Scotty Matthews - Firasat Khan Award

Awarded to a Trinity College student with financial need, in any year of study, who contributes significantly to College life through extra-curricular activities. The award will be by application to the Student Awards Committee.  The selection of the recipient is based on the level of College involvement, however, the recipient must have a minimum CGPA of 2.70. Please submit a full resume and a letter describing how this award will further your academic plan and student life along with a completed 2012-2013 Budget Form for Application Awards (pdf).

The Hungarian Helicon Award 

Applicants must be full-time students at the University of Toronto (any college), have demonstrated interest in the Toronto Hungarian community or be of Hungarian background, and have demonstrated financial need.  Applicants must undertake or have undertaken as part of their studies at least two courses in the field of Hungarian or International Studies.  Please submit a letter outlining your eligibility for this award, your budget for the academic year, two academic letters of reference, and one letter from the Hungarian community referencing your community participation. 

Value: up to $3,000 total (one or more awards)

Deadline: December 1, 2011

The Rolph Award 

This award is given to Trinity College students currently enrolled in courses or programmes that have significant Canadian content and who have demonstrated financial need.  Please submit a letter of application outlining your eligibility for this award along with a completed 2011-2012 Trinity College Bursary Application.

Value: up to $1200 each (one or more awards)  

Deadline: February 13, 2012

The St. George’s Society Awards  

These awards are granted to Trinity College students in financial need who have an interest in English heritage and/or are studying in England.  Applicants must meet the academic standards set by their college and should be active in extra-curricular activities such as: athletics (emphasis on rowing, cricket, rugby, soccer and field hockey), community and social activities and cultural programs (music, theatre, debating, etc.).  Please submit a letter outlining your eligibility for this award, along with a completed 2011-2012 Trinity College Bursary Application.

Value: up to $1,000 each (one or more awards) 

Deadline: February 13, 2012

Awarded: April 2012
