Overdue Fines, Lost and Damaged Items Charges
Patrons who do not return Graham library books on or before the due date will be fined. Patrons who return library items which are damaged (and were not noted as damaged before they were signed out) may be responsible for their reparation or replacement. The fine schedule for the Graham Library is as follows:
- Regular loans: $0.50/day *
- Short-Term Loans and Videos: $0.50/hour
- Recalled items not returned after 2 days: $2/day (no grace period after due date)
- The fee for lost/stolen items, or items which are severely damaged and need to be replaced (i.e. books, periodicals, videos, etc.) is based on their individual replacement cost. An administration fee of $45 will also be charged.
- Damaged items (which need to be fixed): $45/item
* Regular loans have a grace period of one (1) day only if the item(s) are returned the day after they are due.
Most patrons are blocked from borrowing if library fines are $25 or more.
Library fines may be paid at most University of Toronto libraries. At the Graham library, partial fine payments (minimum $10) may be made, except at the end of the academic year. Between approximately April and the end of June, only full fine payments will be accepted. Fines may be paid via cash, cheque, debit and most credit cards. Debit or credit cards will only be accepted if the fine payment is at least $5. All fines paid at the Graham library are removed immediately from patron accounts upon receipt of the payment. Please either call (416) 978-5851 or visit the Circulation Desk on the first floor of the Graham library to inquire about, and/or pay fines.
Please note that medical or other documentation is normally required to reduce or forgive fines. Fines will not be excused for the following reasons:
- Did not renew item on time
- Forgot the due date
- Did not receive a courtesy or overdue notice
- Was not able to renew online
- Was unaware of library policies
- Borrowed the item for someone else
- Returned late by someone else
- Did not report TCard stolen
For the fine schedule of the central library system, please visit the UTL Borrowing Privileges web page.
Graham Library Patron Responsibilities/Rules and Regulations
- All items signed out to a patron account are the responsibility of the person named on the account.
- All Graham library items must be returned on or before the due date in order to avoid fines. Fines may be waived in extenuating circumstances if proof can be provided. Please speak to Susan Bond or Elsie Del Bianco at the Circulation Desk to inquire about waiving fines. Patrons whose fines are not paid may be blocked from obtaining transcripts.
- Due dates of items signed out should be honoured. Most library accounts can be accessed online at My Account on the UTL website and patrons are expected to use this service in order to keep track of dues dates. Renewals may be done on most items (other than STL items or periodicals).
- Library user accounts are expected to be updated if a change in address, phone number, e-mail, etc. has occured. Both system generated courtesy notices (which are sent out via e-mail only) and hold notifications (done at the Graham library by phone) are performed using the information provided on patron library accounts. Updating library account information may be done by visiting the My Account web page on the UTL website. Most patron information on library accounts is not updated from ROSI, since ROSI and the U of T Library database are separate.
Graham Library Conduct Regulations
The Graham Library's Conduct Regulations must be adhered to while in the library or while using library materials. Please see the Trinity College Library Conduct Regulations web page for the complete list of policies on conduct for Graham Library users.
