CONVOCATION MADE EASY
Quickly, now, define Convocation. (Yes, it is a trick question.) For Trinitarians it means more than the universal donning of gowns at graduation; it has also come to mean the broader College community, including Provost, Chancellor, faculty, fellows, associates, alumni and friends. For many years, it has also been the term used for the College alumni association; however, despite the statutory and historical importance of the concept of Convocation, the use of the term "Executive Committee of Convocation" to denote the alumni association executive was obscure and obsolete - not understandable to students, alumni, peer organizations, or the public.

Amendments, approved by the board of trustees in March and by the annual general meeting of alumni in June, will allay some of the confusion. From now on, the broader Trinity community will continue to be known as Convocation, but the group that conducts business affecting the alumni of the College will properly be able to refer to itself as the Alumni Association of Trinity College (AATC). The task force that spearheaded the change in name, also recommended a reduction in the number of members of the AATC executive committee, so that the group will be more cohesive.
