CAPTIVATED BY CATULLUS
Peter Wiseman, whose Catullus and His World has been applauded as "disarmingly readable" and "a scintillating work of imaginative scholarship," is this year's Mary White lecturer. He will speak on "Texts and History: Reflections on Catullus, Cicero and Ovid."
Professor Wiseman, Emeritus Professor of Classics, University of Exeter, is a Fellow of the British Academy. In 1996 he received the Silver Griffin award of the Comune di Sirmione for his work on Catullus.
The Mary White Lectureship in Classics was established in 1979 by Trinity College in memory of Professor Mary Estelle White, who contributed greatly to classical scholarship in Canada.
