  WHAT'S NEW

Grass-roots Movement

A new documentary from Canadian Roots follows five Trinity students along with 16 other students from across Ontario as they take a spring-break road trip across the Canadian Shield. The journey, which brought together aboriginal and non-aboriginal youth, reveals a native Canada of strength and struggle. The students left what they knew to travel across frozen lakes and through big cities, and in the end, developed a new appreciation for their Canadian roots and for Aboriginal Canada. Their impassioned search for Canadian identity makes the promise of reconciliation in Canada an imminent reality.

Ronan MacParland, fourth-year student and producer of the film, joined classmates Jesse Beatson, Deanne LeBlanc Ian Wiley and Jacqueline Wong on this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. “As Canadians,” says MacParland, “it is about time that we accept the challenges that face us, build bridges of understanding, and celebrate the extraordinary story we all share.”

Trinity was the first sponsor to give funding to the project. Trin students Cailan McQuattie and Josh Kelly also contributed by designing the project’s website.
