2016-2017: Welcome and Welcome Back

Dear Members of the Trinity Community:

Provost Mayo MoranAs we start the new academic year, I want to extend my welcome to new and returning members of the Trinity community.

To our new students – welcome to Trinity! Being a part of Trinity gives you the best of both worlds: a small supportive home within the great global university that is the University of Toronto. One of the pleasures of being Provost of a place like Trinity is the contact I have with students and I look forward to getting to know you and to working with you. Over the next four years, I hope your journey is filled with amazing experiences and lasting memories.

To our returning students – welcome back after what I hope was a wonderful and productive summer. All of us here at Trinity are inspired by your talent both inside and outside of the classroom. Your energy, leadership and devotion to your studies are remarkable, as is your compassion and dedication to the welfare of others both here on campus and afar. Your contributions make a difference and I look forward to working with you in the coming year.

To our faculty and staff – thank you for all that you do to ensure that Trinity is an inspiring place to work, live and learn. I witness every day your unwavering dedication to our students and your commitment to making their experience better in every possible way. I also warmly welcome our newest Fellows and Associates, who are all outstanding academics within the U of T community. They will play an active role in the life of the College by enriching our intellectual community.

To our alumni – without your ongoing philanthropic support and involvement as volunteers and mentors, our students could not fulfill their enormous potential. Your generosity with your time and wisdom truly distinguish the Trinity experience. I know I speak for all of us when I say how grateful we are for your support.

2015-2016 was a great year of innovative firsts and community celebrations, including the launch of our Mental Health Program and the Anne Steacy Counselling Initiative. Our graduates of the Class of 2016 exemplify the best of academic accomplishment, community service and leadership – the enduring values of our founder Bishop John Strachan. Looking forward, we will continue to focus on the priorities of our Strategic Plan 2016 and we will roll-out new initiatives to make the Trinity experience the absolute best it can be and to help graduands prepare for life after Trinity.

After many months under construction, the new Trinity College Archives will open later this fall. We hope the new Archives will encourage student use, facilitate scholarship and provide a focal point to inform the wider community about the people, buildings and events that shaped Trinity College.

For those new to Trinity, I encourage you to make the most of your experience here. And if you need any help or have questions, please don’t hesitate – ask a College staff or faculty member or colleague, or connect with an academic don, peer counsellor or student leader. Our close-knit and supportive community brings with it a sense of belonging that is truly unique.

I hope we all have a chance to meet in the near future. But until then, I wish you the very best.

Yours truly,

Mayo Moran
Provost and Vice- Chancellor
