New Green Wall: Enhancing the Student Experience

2017 Green Wall with Danielle Pal in the Buttery

An initiative led by Trinity student Danielle Pal, the new green wall was installed on March 24 in The Buttery in the Gerald Larkin Building!

Along with environmental advantages and adding beauty to our community space, it is known that connecting with nature has many psychological benefits.

“It helps one feel more calm and focused, especially in a high stress environment. Connecting with nature gives you a greater sense of well-being,” said Danielle, who is a double major in Environmental Studies and Psychology, and co-president of the Trinity College Environmental Society.

The green wall includes nine species of preserved plants (mosses, ferns and herbaceous plants). The wall requires no maintenance (no sunlight, water or energy). The installation is about 4.5 m wide by 2 m tall, and will last up to 10 years!

The project was approved by SCCC and funded by the Student Capital Fund (Trinity student society fee).

Thank you to all those involved in supporting this green initiative. And thank you to Ginkgo Sustainability and By Nature.
