OPPORTUNITY: FALL 2014 - WINTER 2015 WORK STUDY

POSITION: ASSISTANT CO-ORDINATOR, ACADEMIC AND STUDENT LIFE PROGRAMMING

POSITION SUMMARY: Supervised by the Associate Registrar, and working with staff in the offices of the Registrar and Dean of Students, the incumbent will be responsible for assisting with the planning, promotion and implementation of various academic and student life programs for the students of Trinity College. The incumbent will have the opportunity to work closely with student leaders, members of the faculty, administration, and Academic Dons, to work toward the common goal of providing high quality transition programming throughout the duration of the academic year. Major job responsibilities include; finalizing and maintaining the annual programming calendar/schedule, scheduling speakers and presenters, booking appropriate space for programs, liaising with the catering team, promoting events through the use of social media and other means, encouraging student participation in various programs, attending many scheduled events to ensure their succes, and collecting student feedback via survey to help evaluate the overall efficacy of events to determine their viability for the future. Familiarity with community life at Trinity College is an asset.

POSITION: SPECIAL PROJECTS, RECRUITMENT AND TRANSITION VIDEOS

POSITION SUMMARY: Supervised by the Associate Registrar and working with staff in the offices of the Registar and Dean of Students, the incumbent will be responsible for the creation and production of a series of short videos, highlighting various aspect of life at Trinity College. The videos will offer viewers an opportunity to take a virtual college tour, and will expose them to a number of college traditions, services etc. The intended audience is prospective and newly admitted students who are thinking about applying to or attending Trinity College. The incumbent will be involved in every aspect of production, from writing to filiming to editing. They must be creative and proficient in the use of video editing software. Familiarity with community life at Trinity College is an asset.

OPPORTUNITY: TRINITY COLLEGE TOUR GUIDE

CONTRACT PERIOD: September 22, 2014 - March 27, 2015

NUMBER OF VACANCIES: Up to 4

REMUNERATION: It is expected that tour guides will be available for approximately 5-6 tours per semester, and will be compensated at a rate of $25 per tour. Guides will be paid twice annually, at the end of each semester (December and April).

POSITION SUMMARY: Trinity College Tour Guides are responsible for leading tours of the Trinity College campus for prospective students and families.  As such, Trinity College Tour Guides play a crucial role in the Admissions experience, as they act as ambassadors for Trinity, and are often the first contact a visitor has with the College.  Tour Guides should have a positive outlook toward the College, and should be willing to display a friendly, helpful and welcoming demeanour towards guests. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must currently be registered as a Trinity College student in good standing, in second year or higher.
  • Must be available on Thursdays and/or Fridays from 2:00-3:30 pm (guides will work on a rotating schedule, and should expect to lead approximately 5-6 tours per semester).
  • General knowledge of Trinity College, including: the residences, academic services and social opportunities.
  • Should display an interest in working with prospective students and their parents.
  • Tour Guides are not required to live in residence.

TRAINING: A brief training session will be provided to those selected prior to the start of their first tour, which Tour Guides will be expected to attend.

STATEMENT OF UNDERSTANDING: As Trinity College Tour Guides act as ambassadors for the College, they are expected to adhere to all non-Academic Policies of the College and University of Toronto, including, but not limited to; the Trinity College Code of Student Conduct and the University of Toronto Code of Student Conduct. Trinity College Tour Guides are expected to abide by the terms of their contract, and must acknowledge that they have read their job description.

OPPORTUNITY: TRINITY COLLEGE RESIDENCE TOUR ROOM HOST

CONTRACT PERIOD: September 22, 2014 - March 27, 2015

REMUNERATION: Trinity College Residence Tour Room Hosts will be compensated at a rate of $20 per tour. In the case of double rooms, each student will be compensated at the rate of $20 per tour. Residence Room Hosts will be paid twice annually, at the end of each semester (December and April).

NUMBER OF VACANCIES: TBD - Both single and double rooms are required in both of the Trinity and St. Hilda's College residence buildings

POSITION SUMMARY: Trinity College Residence Tour Room Hosts are responsible for showing their rooms during scheduled College tours on Thursday and Friday afternoons. Residence Room Hosts must be in their room for the duration of the visit, and their room should be kept reasonably tidy. Residence Room hosts should have a positive outlook toward the College, and should be willing to display a friendly, helpful and welcoming demeanour towards guests.  

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Must currently be registered as a Trinity College student, living in residence at Trinity College or St. Hilda’s College.
  • Students in any year of study are encouraged to apply.
  • Must be available on Thursdays and/or Fridays from 2:00-3:30 pm (rooms will be scheduled on a rotating basis).
  • Residence Tour Room Hosts must be willing to be present in their room for the duration of the tour visit. *Please note thtat in the case of double rooms, only one resident is required to be present for the tour visit, however, permission of both roommates is required prior to applying.
  • Should display an interest in working with prospective students and their parents.

TRAINING: Training is not required for this position.

HART HOUSE Good Ideas Fund (Committee Member (Volunteer)

The Hart House Good Ideas Fund (GIF) is designed to provide support activities that contribute to student life on campus.  GIF is administered through Hart House , and is open to all full-time or part-time students, and to any student group based at the University of Toronto.

The GIF Committee is looking for volunteers for the 2014-15 academic year.  Volunteer applicants should have some experience in funding allocation decision making, event planning, and/or campus life.  Chosen applicants will meet once a month from September to April to assess applications to the fund, and determine how to allocate the Good Idea’s Fund resources.

Committee members will work with the GIF Intern to decide whether the activities or events described in applications enhance or have a significant impact on campus student life, and determine to what extent they promote cultural diversity, collaboration by closely examining application budgets, funding requirements, the event, its target audience and promotions plans. Committee members will also assist the GIF Intern in providing meaningful, constructive feedback for applicants whose requests for funding have been denied.

Participation in the Good Ideas Fund Committee will be eligible for CCR validation.
