December 20. 2023: Trinity College Dean of Arts and Vice-Provost

Applications are invited for the position of Dean of Arts and Vice-Provost of Trinity College, from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2029, for a five-year term, with the possibility of renewal.

 


December 14, 2023: Dean of Arts Search Committee – Announcement 

Dear Members of the Trinity College Community,

As you will know from my messages, Professor Michael Ratcliffe’s term as Dean of Arts of Trinity College ends on June 30, 2024. His leadership has been exemplary, and we will have an opportunity to express our appreciation before the end of his term. The review committee has concluded their work, and I am grateful for those who conducted the review and for everyone who participated. The review committee’s report will be shared with the Board of Trustees.

The Dean of Arts Search Committee will advise me in making my recommendation to the Board of Trustees for the appointment of Trinity’s next Dean of Arts. As Provost, I serve as an ex-officio member and will chair the committee. We thank everyone who sent in their nominations for committee membership. The Search Committee has been composed in accordance with Sections 4.9 and 4.10 of the Federation Framework Agreement and formed to ensure representation of the Trinity community.

The composition of the Search Committee is as follows:

  • Sandy Welsh, Vice-Provost Students, University of Toronto
  • Nick Terpstra, Professor and University of Toronto Faculty (Chair of the review committee and representative of the Faculty of Arts & Science)
  • Irene Morra, Principal and Vice-President of St. Michael’s College
  • Chris Brittain, Dean of Divinity and Margaret E. Fleck Chair in Anglican Studies
  • Timothy Sayle, Fellow of Trinity College and University of Toronto Faculty
  • Michael Kessler, Fellow and Faculty member of Trinity College
  • John Duncan, Fellow and Faculty member of Trinity College
  • Nelson De Melo, Registrar and Director of Student Services
  • Kate MacDonald, Nicholls Librarian and Director, John W. Graham Library
  • Marjorie He, undergraduate student
  • Bhavnoor Pannu, undergraduate student

Outline of Process and Timeline: The committee will begin its work immediately. The finalized position and next steps will be shared with the community in the coming weeks.

December 4, 2023: Dean of Arts Search Committee – Call for Nominations

Dear Members of the Trinity College Community:

As you will know from my previous message, Professor Michael Ratcliffe’s second and final term as Dean of Arts & Vice-Provost of Trinity College ends on June 30, 2024. His leadership has been exemplary and we will have an opportunity to express our appreciation before the end of term. You will also be aware from that message that the review of the Office of the Dean of Arts is underway, and I am grateful for those conducting and for all of you participating in that review.

As the review concludes its work, it is now time to strike the search committee for the new Dean of Arts. The search committee will advise me in making my recommendation to the Board of Trustees for the appointment of Trinity’s next Dean of Arts. As Provost, I serve as an ex-officio member and will chair the committee. I would like to invite you to submit nominations for members of the community to serve on the Dean of Arts search committee.

If you would like to suggest an individual to serve on this search committee, please submit the nomination in writing to Kristina Karakolis at collegesecretary@trinity.utoronto.ca no later than December 8, 2023.

The committee will begin its work immediately after members are confirmed and will carry out its work over the upcoming term.
