By John Duncan, Director, Ethics, Society & Law
On the last day of classes for the winter term on April 4, 2025, Trinity’s Ethics, Society, and Law program (we say “E, S, AND L”) hosted a poster session and graduation celebration in the Rigby Room at St Hilda’s College. The poster session featured the work of students completing ES&L’s Community Research Partnerships in Ethics program (CRPE). Each CRPE student works with a community partner organization and a U of T faculty supervisor from September to April with the goal of meeting knowledge needs of the partner.
Everyone came together for the poster session so the students could share their work with the entire CRPE community of staff, faculty, partners and students. Trinity Provost & Vice-Chancellor Nick Terpstra said the work was “very impressive” and “definitely something to celebrate!”
Valued CRPE community partners include Justice for Children and Youth, The Canadian Environmental Law Association, Communities, Alliances and Networks, the Office of the Integrity Commissioner of Toronto, and the Canadian Centre for Victims of Torture, among others. Next year will be the 20th year of CRPE, which was started under the ES&L directorship of Professor John Duncan in collaboration with the Centre for Ethics in 2006. Since 2021-2022, ES&L Associate Director Professor Jennifer Leitch has been running the program.
U of T’s Center for Community Partnerships generously supported the poster session, as did the Siriopoulos family.
The poster session flowed into the 2025 ES&L graduation celebration. ES&L’s Student Association President Garyn Rickwood and Work-Study Student Kiona Osowski delivered a wonderful tag-team speech filled with laughs and inspiration. ES&L alum and former TRN304Y Adjunct Professor Anthony Morgan, now serving on the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal, provided timely and inspiring remarks to welcome the new grads into the alum community. All reflected on memorable opportunities shared in ES&L and grads looked forward to law schools and graduate programs around the world!
