In Memoriam: Elizabeth Rowlinson

Posted: March 23, 2020

Dear Members of the Trinity Community,

I am writing to let you know of the death of a deeply loved member of the Trinity community: the Reverend Dr. Elizabeth Rowlinson, who passed away on March 17, 2020.

Portrait of Elizabeth RowlinsonElizabeth served as the first Dean of St. Hilda’s College and the fifth Dean of Women at Trinity College from 1978 until her retirement in 1991. She was a Fellow of Trinity, becoming a Fellow Emerita on her retirement. Like many former Deans, Elizabeth was a remarkable person. She was a mathematician (Assistant Professor at McGill), an accomplished amateur musician, a wife and mother of three boys, who, in her retirement, became an Anglican priest and a chaplain at McGill.  She returned to Trinity frequently for the St. Hilda’s Luncheon at Reunion. Elizabeth will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.

We extend our deepest condolences to Elizabeth’s family.

You may read Elizabeth’s obituary (Globe & Mail) here.
