Posted: August 23, 2019

Join Trinity faculty, staff, alumni and fellow students for one of our beloved traditions Matriculation Convocation 2019 on September 4.

The Hon. William C. Graham, Chancellor of Trinity College, invites members of the Trinity College community to the Matriculation Convocation on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at 7:30 pm in the MacMillan Theatre, Faculty of Music.

At Matriculation Convocation, we will formally admit and welcome our incoming students (first-year Faculty of Arts & Science and Faculty of Divinity students) to the College. Students will be invited to sign the Trinity College register.

At this Convocation, the College will confer a Doctor of Sacred Letters upon Rosemary McCarney and an Honorary Fellowship upon Derek Allen.

Rosemary McCarney | Doctor of Sacred Letters (honoris causa)

The honorary degree is offered in recognition of her long and distinguished career in public service, especially for humanitarian work at Plan International Canada, and her role as Canada’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations and the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva; and her many other contributions to Canada’s role in international affairs. Rosemary McCarney will be presented in English by The Hon. Bob Rae, and hooded Prof. Cindy Ewing.

Derek Allen | Honorary Fellowship

The honorary fellowship is offered in recognition of his long and distinguished career at Trinity College, as an esteemed academic leader, a respected colleague, and a generous mentor to students. An Honorary Fellowship is the highest honour the college bestows upon an individual. Derek Allen will be presented in English by Prof. John Duncan, and gowned by Ms. Caroline Leps. Prof. Allen will also deliver the Convocation address.

Incoming Students: please arrive by 7:00 pm in the Trinity College Quadrangle to line up before proceeding to the MacMillan Theatre. The student procession will depart from the Quad by 7:15 pm.

Academic Procession (Faculty, Staff and honored guests): marshalling for the academic procession will take place in the main Trinity College corridor starting at 7:00 pm.

Following the ceremony, a reception will be held in the Trinity Quad (in the event of rain, the reception will be held in Strachan Hall and Seeley Hall). All are welcome to attend the ceremony and reception. If you have questions about Matriculation, you can email Trinity’s Registrar’s Office at registrar@trinity.utoronto.ca.
