Collage of events and people from the Trinity community during the 2016-2017 year

Dear Members of the Trinity Community:

What an incredible year we’ve had together! The last 10 months have been filled with many honoured traditions, exciting milestones and community events. This is all part of our commitment to building the Trinity community and making the student experience the best it can possibly be.

Earlier this year, we marked an important milestone – it’s been one year since we launched our Mental Health Program and the Anne Steacy Counselling Initiative. Our work in this important area is making a real difference and we continue to expand our health and wellness program. We are also focusing on providing more opportunities to learn outside of the classroom including funds for experiential learning; supporting students with academic and career planning; improving our food services with sustainable and healthy food; and continuing to build an even more accessible, inclusive, welcoming and safe environment. Trinity’s new Director of Student Services (a role assumed by our Registrar) is leading the student-related priorities identified in our strategic plan. And across the College, we are taking a look at our physical space so we can provide the best learning, living and social spaces while honouring our beautiful historic campus.

I’m so proud that Trinity continues to be a place of rich intellectual exchange on issues that impact our world. This year, Carolyn Bennett (video), Roméo Dallaire, Frank Iacobucci, Margaret MacMillan (who also received an honorary degree from U of T at last week’s Convocation), Philippe Sands (video) among many others, joined us for important conversations, many of which were hosted by our wonderful Chancellor Bill Graham. These events serve a common purpose – to bring together all parts of the Trinity community and enrich the student experience through connecting and engaging in dialogue with our inspiring alumni.

To our alumni, thank you for giving back to the College in so many ways. It was wonderful to see so many of you back at the College for Spring Reunion. Your philanthropic support allows our students to thrive while they are here. And equally important, thank you for volunteering in your various roles and for sharing your time, talents, experiences with our students at both informal gatherings and mentorship and networking events.

To our students, making a difference has always been an important part of the Trinity way and you are proudly upholding the College’s long standing tradition. It’s been such a great pleasure to work with the student heads and other student leaders this year – our collective thanks for your leadership, commitment and determination to make Trinity an even better place for all students.

I’m also grateful to our staff, faculty and members of our academic community for their unwavering dedication to students. One such member is David Neelands – on June 30, he will end his third term as the Dean of the Faculty of Divinity and Margaret E. Fleck Chair in Anglican Studies. David is not going too far; he will continue in a teaching capacity and supervising students in the Faculty, and will remain an active member of the community. Christopher Brittain will join us this summer as our new Dean and I hope you have the opportunity to meet him in the coming months.

I extend a special congratulations to our spring 2017 Divinity and Arts & Science graduates and I welcome you to our alumni community! You exemplify the best of academic accomplishment, community service and leadership – the enduring values of our founder Bishop John Strachan. I am proud of your individual and collective achievements and I wish you all the best in your future endeavours! And to those returning in the fall, I wish you a wonderful and restful summer and I look forward to seeing you in September.

Yours truly,

Mayo Moran
Provost and Vice-Chancellor
