Trinity alumni at the U of T 2016 Arbor Awards

Trinity’s newest and past Arbor Award recipients celebrate together at the U of T awards ceremony on September 15, 2016

Established in 1989, The Arbor Award is a U of T-wide honour designed to recognize the outstanding service of alumni volunteers, as well as friends of the university who have generously committed their time and expertise to improve the experience of students, faculty, alumni and staff.

This September, seven Trinity alumni received Arbor Awards 2016!

Congratulations to our newest award recipients: G. Philip Cooper ’98, Richard D. McDonald ’82, Alan E. Morson ’57, Judith Ransom ’63, Faran Umar-Khitab ’04, Elizabeth V. Vernon ’53 and Peter Wismath ’94.

Rev. G. Philip Cooper: Philip is a longtime volunteer with the Faculty of Divinity at Trinity College, and past president of the Divinity Associates Executive. He has organized a number of conferences that have encouraged divinity alumni to re-engage with the College.

Richard D. McDonald: Richard is a valued alumni mentor in the Department of Computer Science, at the Faculty of Arts and Science. He has been a mentor in the Arts and Science Entrepreneurship Program and enriched the experience of countless students as a volunteer at many Backpack to Briefcase events.

Alan E. Morson: A long-serving volunteer at Trinity College, Alan’s involvement began in the 1960s. He served as Campaign Chair for the Renewing Trinity Capital Campaign, and continues to give valuable guidance on matters of finances, fundraising, governance, and strategic planning.

Judith Ransom: Judith is a tireless Year Rep for her Trinity College Class of 1963. Over the years, she has organized a series of successful reunions, including the most recent 50th Anniversary Celebration, which raised more than $50,000 for an endowed scholarship

Faran Umar-Khitab: Faran has been a mentor in the Alumni Mentorship Program at Rotman Commerce since 2007 and joined the Alumni Steering Committee last year. He contributes broadly to all areas of the mentorship program including networking events and mock interviews.

Elizabeth V. Vernon: Elizabeth has been a member of Trinity College Friends of the Library for almost 20 years, coordinating the Children’s section of the Trinity College Book Sale and being instrumental to the annual success of the sale. She is also an active member of the Class of 1953 committee.

Peter Wismath: Peter chaired the Trinity College Alumni Association. He led a task force on young alumni engagement that led to several new initiatives, including a series of themed events and a more effective social media presence.

Trinity’s Arbor Award 2016 recipients will be added to our ever-growing Arbor Awards wall on campus.
