Celebrating Trinity Staff/Faculty

Trinity’s Wellness Team’s new social media series celebrates and highlights our incredible staff and faculty at the College. The Team hopes by highlighting and honouring the work of our staff and faculty members, our students and community can get to know each other better over the next few months! For February, the Team highlights some Black-identifying staff/faculty, beginning with Ramata Tarawally, Director, Community Wellness!

Thanks to the Wellness Team’s student-staff member Victoria McCutcheon for working with the team on this initiative.

WT: Why do you enjoy working at Trinity College?

RT: I love connecting and meeting with students. I am continually amazed by Trinity students’ humour, tenacity, grit, intellect and kindness. I learn something new from a student minimally on a weekly basis!

WT: How can students contact you if they want to connect further?

RT: Students are always welcome to email or call me to make an appointment: email rtararwally@trinity.utoronto.ca or call 416-946-4044.

WT: What is your favourite location on Trinity or U of T campus?

RT: My two favourite spaces are the Abbott Room – Trinity’s Wellness space – and Quad. The Abbott Room is so cozy and fun. I love that the space is curated by the Wellness team and is available as a safe and inclusive hub for students. I also love the Quad and think it is such a special space for the Trinity community. It’s great to see students, staff and faculty out mingling in the Quad on hot days. I cannot wait for the spring to come and for the community to get out and enjoy the space!

WT: What is a fun memory or experience you have of working at the college?

RT: One of my favourite times of the year is Orientation Week. I LOVE meeting all the new students and helping to welcome them to Trinity College, the University of Toronto and the greater Toronto community.

WT: What do you think it is important for us to celebrate and highlight the diversity of our College members?

RT: As a Black woman and proud feminist, I believe it is important to do work and action to address all forms of racism and discrimination. I believe that highlighting our phenomenal staff and faculty, and celebrating their diversity, is an important step in establishing an inclusive community and combating racism and discrimination.
