Trinity One Talks: Kelly Crowe

Kelly Crowe, a medical sciences correspondent for CBC National News, spoke to TrinOne about how scientific research becomes news. She discussed the challenges journalists face in interpreting and verifying the news value of scientific discoveries, and the consequences for the public when things go wrong. She also talked about the increasing amount of research that is funded by interest groups and how this puts additional pressure on journalists to do their own research. During Q&A we discussed how social media and other online resources have changed the relationship between patients and doctors, whether we are reaching a plateau in population health, and the rise of alternative medicine.
