Program Requirements
First year preparation:
Entry into the International Relations Program is dependent upon grade results and on an admissions interview. Students may only apply to enter the International Relations Program following the successful completion of the specified first year requirements.
Specialist Program
To gain admission to the Specialist Program, students must obtain an average of at least 75% in the required first year courses. The three required first year courses are:
- ECO 100Y1/ 105Y1
- HIS 103Y1 or TRN 150Y1/151Y1 or two of VIC 181H1, 183H1, 184H1, 185H1
- One Introductory modern language course or MAT 133Y1/137Y1
The Economics Department advises that ECO 100Y1 will provide the most appropriate background for International Relations specialists who intend to take higher-level courses in the discipline. In addition, students may find an introductory Political Science course (such as POL 101) valuable.
Major Program
To gain admission to the Major Program, students must obtain an average of at least 70% in the required first year courses. Students must take:
- ECO 100Y1/105Y1
- HIS 103Y1 or TRN 150Y1/151Y1 or two of VIC 181H1, 183H1, 184H1, 185H1
While we encourage all International Relations students to take ECO 100Y1,ECO 105Y1 may be an appropriate choice for those who do not intend to take higher-level Economics courses, beyond ECO 230Y1 or ECO 342Y1, which is required.
In case of conflicting information, the Arts and Science Calendar should be assumed to be correct.
