Book Donations Policy

The John W. Graham Library appreciates the generosity of our donors. We welcome inquiries about book donations to our general collection, but due to current collection policies, the costs of processing collections, and available storage space, we are not able to accept all donations.

We are also interested in donations of books and pamphlets for our rare and special collections, including but not limited to items of high value, scarcity, and/or early printed works that are difficult to obtain through our regular acquisitions program.

Donors should contact kate.macdonald@utoronto.ca, Director, Graham Library in order to discuss donation options.

Donation Procedures for General Collection

  • Please provide an itemized list including author, title and publication information so that we can check against our existing collections and program needs.
  • If we choose to accept the donation, the material becomes the property of Trinity College. Graham Library has the right to dispose of duplicate or unwanted material. Disposal may include gifting the material to another library or giving the material to the Trinity College Friends of the Library Book Sale. Material that cannot be reused or redistributed will be recycled.
  • Books intended for our general collections and rare books must be mold and pest-free.
  • Donors are responsible for delivery of accepted material to the library.

We won’t accept:

  • Textbooks and course packs
  • Titles already owned by the Libraries
  • Periodicals/magazines/newspapers unless considered appropriate for rare and special collections
  • Materials in poor condition
  • Materials outside our collection development scope
