Graham Library Churchill Room

Among the books, pamphlets, periodical articles, and textual records acquired from various gifts over the years, the collection also includes many interesting examples of Churchill ephemera or memorabilia (“Churchilliana”). These items can prove to be an invaluable resource for material culture scholars, media scholars and scholars of Churchill as a popular figure. Douglas Hall’s The Book of Churchilliana (2002) [CHURCHILL SEC 2002 H34] is an invaluable companion resource for anyone interested in Churchilliana.

Some examples are Churchill’s personal visiting card, an Ogden’s Guinea Gold Cigarettes card portrait from 1900, a 1914 souvenir portrait on silk, and a tear-off card for readers to send to Churchill on his 80th birthday.

Another postcard with an attached reply card of a more serious intent is Churchill’s 1936 “Message” urging support for the New Commonwealth Society, “in order to prevent the horror and ruin of another World War”.

The collection also includes porcelain figurines, framed prints, commemorative plates and vinyl recordings of Churchill’s speeches.
